CONGRATULATIONS TO BSU'S DAMIAN HUME, USTA/ITA MOUNTAIN REGION CHAMPION
LAS VEGAS-Boise State men's tennis senior Damian Hume completed a dominant run at the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships with a win in the title match of the singles main draw. Hume beat New Mexico's Jadon Phillips 6-1, 6-3, Sunday, Oct. 23, to cap his week at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas.
"Damian was absolutely brilliant," said head coach Greg Patton. "He 'out-patience-ed' a guy who might be the most patient player in the country. He out-waited a guy who is used to a stare down."
Hume entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and No. 63-ranked player in the country. Phillips was the No. 4 seed, and ranked 81st nationally. Hume won all seven matches at the tournament in straight sets, outscoring his opponents 85-30.
As the champion, Hume will represent the mountain region at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 3-6, in Flushing, N.Y.
