McCall Community Tennis Association is wrapping up its fifth year and the board is extremely pleased with the participation in club activities, especially the Wednesday Drills & Skills clinics.
Activities during the 2011 tennis season included two adult doubles tennis tournaments, with 32 entries in the most recent tournament – a record number of participants. Three round robin mixed doubles socials were held along with the Wednesday clinics, which drew an average of 20 players each week during peak season. Again, record numbers! A monthly “Restart Your Game” clinic was also well-received and the monthly guest pro, as always, proved immensely popular, according to Linda Hallock, 2011 MCTA president.
In an ongoing effort to encourage youth tennis in the community, MCTA and Idaho Tennis Association brought instructors in to teach trainings for youth and volunteer adults this year. MCTA and McCall Parks and Rec Department also sponsored a “Kid’s Court Carnival” in June and a juniors tournament in July.
Additionally, MCTA sponsored a “Business After Hours” in conjunction with the McCall Chamber of Commerce, bringing two outstanding college players from Boise State to demonstrate their skills and to share pointers with those attending.
Other 2011 accomplishments included:
Addition of windscreens at the City courts
Installation of electricity at the courts
Purchase of a new ball machine for the 2012 summer season (made possible with funds from a matching grant)
Acquisition of additional equipment designed for Drills and Skills for youth
Installation of opening in the fencing for the northeast City court
Purchase of canopy, tables and display boards for club events
Initiation of a trial tennis ladder
