MERIDIAN TENNIS ASSOCIATION

Meridian Tennis Association (MTA) joined the Idaho CTA family in 2010 with the goal of raising money to build the Meridian Tennis Center, a year-round public community tennis facility at Settlers Park (a 60-acre sports park at crossroads of Meridian and Ustick roads). MTA is working with the City of Meridian to build the facility which will be open to the public and feature educational and arts components.

Meridian Tennis Center will offer tennis lessons, tournaments, league play and other activities. Plans include adding two additional courts to the existing two outdoor exhibition courts at Settlers Park; adding five indoor courts (next to the water tank), three permanent QuickStart courts and a practice wall.

With the ultimate goal to raise $2 million for the center, MTA hosted a 2011 summer fundraising event -- a lottery drawing for two tickets to the 2011 US Open -- with local Meridian resident, Nina Hansen, being the lucky winner!

"Not even a pending hurricane or cancelled airline flights could stop Nina and her father (also a tennis enthusiast) from getting to  New York City," said MTA President Sandy Moore. While there, they were treated to lunch in the USTA President’s dining room, followed by seating in the President’s courtside box.

"Nina says that being able to see the players that close gave her a new appreciation of their expertise and was a 'thrilling' experience," said Moore. "Nina hopes to help come up with additional fundraising ideas for MTA and says she will continue to work toward the completion of the Settlers Park project."
