Treasure Valley Tennis Association

In 2009, Treasure Valley Tennis Association (TVTA) continued the annual celebration of the USTA’s National Tennis Month in May by sponsoring Tennis Block Parties at three locations in the Treasure Valley including Boise, Meridian and Nampa. Overall, approximately 50 people turned out to participate in the programs. The block parties were designed to kick-off the Valley-wide Tennis 101 program that began in June. Representatives from USTA and Idaho Tennis Association took part in the activities, and as did Tennis 101 site coordinators and instructors. Each site had tennis-related activities such as rally ball demonstrations and skills clinics. Information was also available on many different tennis playing and instructional opportunities available in the Valley.

TVTA teamed also up again with Meridian Parks and Recreation to offer summer lessons. Group lessons were offered to beginning and intermediate juniors as well as “Tiny Tots” and adults. The program remains a favorite among Parks and Rec participants and has become a sustained success of TVTA programming.

This summer, TVTA sponsored the Treasure Valley Junior Circuit (TVJC) tournaments. Four Circuit tournaments around the Treasure Valley (including Boise, Meridian and Nampa) led up to a final Grand Prix held at Boise Racquet and Swim Club. Over 400 junior girls and boys competed in the A and B Division (within their age groups). The remarkable growth in this year’s TVJC tournaments makes them one of the largest junior circuits in the Northwest and the largest junior tournament series in Idaho.

In other news, TVTA was granted Federal 501 nonprofit status, which should help with fundraising in the coming years and TVTA’s continued mission of expanding tennis through the valley by offering quality inexpensive community activities and support.
